Our Social Responsibility At Our Events
Marjon Student Union believes that it is important, that we work with the Government and in particular enforcement bodies such as the police and local authorities, to actively support and promote responsible drinking by:
Liasing with the College to ensure their bars are;
• Providing S.I.A licence Doorstaff
• Promoting and selling alcohol responsibly
• Providing a safe and welcoming environment for all our customers and staff
• Creating an atmosphere whereby our customers can relax and enjoy themselves
• Encourage responsible drinking in all our bars, to reduce the likelihood of outbreaks of crime and disorder through excessive drinking
• Apply appropriate safety standards in terms of customer well-being
• Comply with licensing and employment legislation
• Ensure that all College staff are familiar with policy on alcohol and social responsibility and what is expected of them
• Provide cheaper soft drinks, we keep our soft drinks prices low to encourage sensible drinking and have free tap water available at all times
• Provide training, Retrain all staff members and door staff in how to promote a safe environment for our customers
• Ensure the use of plastic glasses
Sensible Drinking
Current daily sensible drinking guidelines for adults:
2-3 units or less for females 3-4 units or less for males
Refraining on one day should not mean excess on another
1 unit of alcohol=
half a pint of standard beer (alc 3.5% vol)
or: a 25ml serving of spirit (alc 40% vol)
or: half a 175ml glass of wine (alc 12% vol)
